Abstract
Microinvasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) has emerged as a safer method for lowering intraocular pressure (IOP), with minimal impact on patients’ quality of life compared with traditional glaucoma surgeries.
With the advent of MIGS, there has been renewed interest in exploring the suprachoroidal route. MIGS procedures targeting the suprachoroidal space allow for a safe reduction in IOP while preserving the conjunctiva and enabling “blebless” surgery, thereby avoiding complications associated with filtering blebs.
This article aims to review the rationale behind suprachoroidal MIGS procedures and the existing literature regarding the efficacy and safety of a novel suprachoroidal device, the MINIject.
The available literature has demonstrated promising IOP-lowering results with the MINIject implant, suggesting a potentially safer and less invasive approach compared with traditional glaucoma surgeries.
